Lumous AI is an open-source AI workspace that enables developers and teams to use their own AI provider credentials while maintaining complete ownership of their infrastructure, usage, and costs. Unlike many AI applications that bundle model access into expensive subscriptions, Lumous AI follows a Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) approach.
My Contributions
- Designed the overall product architecture and developer experience for Lumous AI, an open-source AI workspace
- Built a BYOK-first platform enabling users to retain ownership of their AI providers, usage, and costs
- Integrated OpenRouter to support a wide range of leading AI models through a single gateway
- Developed real-time chat infrastructure with streaming responses and conversation persistence
- Implemented usage analytics and cost observability features to provide transparency into AI consumption
- Built secure credential management workflows with encrypted API key storage
- Created scalable frontend and backend foundations using React, TypeScript, Node.js, and Express
- Led the project from concept to an open-source release within the first week of development
- Established the project as a community-driven initiative and welcomed external contributions and feedback
